Entry 15:Day 50 to 53
Highway No. 1 - Yosemite Park - San Francisco
Bold words point at a picture on this page
Whaddayaknow? I was hoping I would fulfill my dream of driving from L.A.
to San Francisco on Highway No.1 but instead I spent 2 exciting days in
Yosemite National Park. What a place? I wish I could put all the pictures
I have from Yosemite on this page. Definitely one of the better places on
this planet. I met up with several friends from my class at the University
of Michigan. It was great to catch with what they are up to and also revive
the good old past.
Yosemite is one of the prime examples of a valley or better valleys formed
by glacier during the iceage. In the granite you can still see the traces
of the huge glaciers running through the valley and how the formed the mountains
around it.
Our group hiked up to the top of Yosemite Falls, which falls a long
way down (I wanted to tell you how high but unfortunately I can't seem to
find the exact distance). It took us about 6 hours round-trip. We hiked
7.5 miles and gained 3000 feet in elevation. If you can't imagine how strenuous
this is, let me tell you: it is VERY hard!!!! But the reward is a great
view of the valley and the knowledge that you were up there.
On the next day we drove up to Glacier Point from where you can see the
entire National Park. All the falls and the vastness of the valley
as well as its highest point, Half Dome.
Yesterday, Monday, July 29, I spent in San Francisco, my favorite city in
the world (now competing with Sydney). I stood in line for half an hour
to get a ticket for an Alcatraz visit for Thursday (!).
This is one of those times where it totally paid of that I went to the US
to get a degree: I'm staying with a friend of mine, Desi and meet up with
all those schoolmates. It is fantastic! Desi, by the way, is the second
dude on the left in the group photo.
Today, it's Tuesday, July 30. And I'm on my way to Napa Valley to enjoy
some wine there.
